Where We Started
Megan Van Son has grown up in Maryville, Tennessee, and currently attends the University of Kentucky, where she is double majoring in Business Management and Equine Science. Throughout her life, Megan has been dedicated to equestrian activities, as well as academics, orchestra, and community involvement. Growing up at Young Mountain Farm, Megan became a "barn rat", and absorbed all the equine knowledge she could. Over the years her love of horses has continually expanded, resulting in her business, MVS Equestrian, as well as the Minis of Young Mountain Farm.
In the fall of 2010, Megan Van Son began contemplating ways to benefit her community through her love of horses. She quickly decided she wanted to work with Miniature Horses because of their lovable nature and easy-to-transport size. For several months, she researched the Miniature Horse breed and contacted breeders worldwide. In the spring of 2011, two Miniature Horse mares, Cameo and Go Girl, were graciously donated by Judy Zachary, a local Miniature Horse breeder, to help jumpstart Megan’s dream.
What started as a few Girlscout troops and camp visits quickly expanded into The Minis of Young Mountain Farm program, visitng schools and various organizations in the area. At the start of 2013, Megan met with Pam Wolf of Harmony Adoptions to discuss ways to collaborate with their programs. Shortly after, Megan began work on A Mini Book.
